Art Talk with Lorenzo Dolce.

Art Talk with Lorenzo Dolce.

So what to say…what to say.  Art today can be such a passé thing.  As many will tell you today it’s Los AngelesNew York or bust baby!  What a bunch of bull shit.  I have seen better art in New Mexico.  What.  So not to deter from the subject.  Denver’s art scene.  I got involved in the Denver art scene in 1995 when I moved here and what a dry lame cowboy town scene it was.  For Christ sakes I had a painting in a Merrill Lynch show in 1997 and let me tell you I never saw so much crappy art including mine.  Since those days not too long ago our little cow dump city has changed drastically.  We have an explosive space ship art museum that literally explodes and has a nice leaky roof and panels that explode of in the nice Colorado Sun.  John Denver would be proud.  So with that said have you been to the MCA Denver.  It’s quite an experience.  The first show that I have seen in the new building was the Damien Hirst.  Although small it was intense.  Who doesn’t love dead cows and butterflies?  As many of you know I started out on Santa Fe in 2004-2005 and was on that block till 2007.  The fell down there yet still strong has changed drastically.  My only real stopping point now is Lux De Ville and Joe’s Kitchen’s Ink.  Cool shit, best of people and always good art.  Hopefully the rest of the blocks gets a checkin.  So now this Zebra Coop thing is growing and becoming more and more fun each day.  I just shared an opening with one of my best friends and oldest artist that I know.  Orpheus.  His work is vivid, entertaining but yet layered and secretive.  There are things that would take a lifetime of 63 to see.  The RiNo art district has been great and has drawing great crowds of art collectors, art enthusiasts and party animals.  We have had six shows since our inception in May and every opening has been successful with sales for each artist.  This is truly a great thing as I know in this economy selling art is a hard thing to do.  But don’t let the media lie to you.  We have an economy that is turbulent from a political and financial perspective.  But then why are people still eating out, still shopping, still doing shit that costs money…like you know.  Well the answer is I believe the media and government are not exactly telling the truth.  That is why I am here to tell you that Denver Art Community is growing and growing rapidly.  My suggestion is go to a local art show, art walk, anything.  Put 20 bucks in your pocket and finagle something out of someone that you like.  Trust me it will make their day.  And guess what maybe one day you will have a collection where you spend 20 million.

My Son and his pee hand

  • Mar. 4th, 2009 at 3:11 PM

So I just got notified that my 5 year old just got busted for taking a pee and peeing on his hand and smashing it in another boys face. Pretty gross, but what can I say he is my son and I have pretty much done a lot worse. My joking response was are you sure the other boy didn't jam his face into his innocent pee hand? Boys will be boys. Now I have to give him the don't smear your pee on others faces talk or at least until you are over 21 and someone requests it.

Fucking Green Peace

  • Feb. 27th, 2009 at 3:11 PM

When some Green Peace fuck screams out, "YOU LOVE WHALES DON'T YA" The simple answer to SCREAM BACK is "NOPE!" What is with these people, let me get to work...and no I don't have money for your pet whale. I felt about 1/16 of a dick but at this point of dealing with them for a year now I really don't care.

Khoda from Reza Dolatabadi on Vimeo.

Check out this trippy five-minute video, Khoda, by Reza Dolatabadi. Dolatabad is a graduate film student who made this film from 6,000 individual paintings shown at a rate of 20 per second. It took over two years to complete and is pretty mind-blowing.
